Nostalgia and disco and soul and a good voice. “If you’re not really here
then the stars don’t even matter” sings the Australian born LA kid Sparro on “Black & Gold” which I consider to be the single of the year.
But the rest of the album is of different cut, mostly funky electro disco beats dominating. At times, he brings Jamie Lidell and Gnarls Barkley to mind. His gospel days are over but he still captures the spirit with “Waiting for Time” and “Too Many Questions“. Not to mention his soulful and deep voice, kind of mix between Winehouse and Hegarty. “21st Century Soul”, “Cut Me Loose” and “Hot Mess” are the perfect dance funk hits waiting to be unleashed on the dancefloor. And the groovy and drug induced “Cottonmouth” will ooze the moves out of you once you reach the bar.
Sparro, who’s openly gay (in case you we’re wondering), is actually a normal and peace loving citizen who just happens to funk on stage and wear cool weird clothes. By sound and sensibility this album is this year’s “Overpowered” but will definitely have more mainstream impact than Roisin.

Warpi video kinnitab, et mees, kes laval olles omab seda ning ka kõiki kuulajaid/vaatajaid, pole soulinakkust küljest heitnud ning ettevalmistatav plaat tuleb (vähemalt laivis) “Multiply” maiguline. Jamie Lidell käis ka esimesel KUMU ÖÖl. Usun, et kohalkäinutel on ta siiani meeles. Ja kes ei tea, siis võib tema esinemisi võrrelda näiteks Pastacaga: mõlemid ehitavad lugusid üles sämplihaaval kasvades välja ühemeheorkestriks. Samas, muusikastiililt nad väga ei sarnane; ja kui Ramo Teder istub vaikselt enamasti ühe koha peal, siis Jamie teeb kümnevõistlust. Lidell kuulub ühte sõpruskonda ka Feisti, Gonzalese ja Mockyga, kellega on ta korduvalt ka esinenud, samuti löövad sõbrad kaasa üksteise plaatidel.

Räägitakse, et tema ongi uus Andre3000 või Gnarls Barkley; või et tal on viimastega sarnane läbilöögivõimalus. Outkasti Idlewindil tegi ta kaasa kahes loos (”Call The Law”, “In Your Dreams”).
Sel aastal on oodata päris tema enda plaati, mis jõuab sarnaselt Roisin Murphy esimese plaadiga huvilisteni nelja EPna. Kahe nädala pärast ilmutab end “Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase”.
