Well, there are some who dislike his camp electro productions. I, for sure, didn’t fall in love with “I Created Disco” either. One good single which is all about recapturing the 80’s is not enough. In addition, some mediocre productions for Kylie and Roisin - well, still doesn’t show whether he has any exceptional talents.
BUT, now, at least for me, Harris has hit gold with grime favourite Dizzee Rascal. The single “Dance Wiw Me” reached no1 in the UK charts recently. Well, I’ve always loved the UK charts for being dynamic.

Nostalgia and disco and soul and a good voice. “If you’re not really here
then the stars don’t even matter” sings the Australian born LA kid Sparro on “Black & Gold” which I consider to be the single of the year.
But the rest of the album is of different cut, mostly funky electro disco beats dominating. At times, he brings Jamie Lidell and Gnarls Barkley to mind. His gospel days are over but he still captures the spirit with “Waiting for Time” and “Too Many Questions“. Not to mention his soulful and deep voice, kind of mix between Winehouse and Hegarty. “21st Century Soul”, “Cut Me Loose” and “Hot Mess” are the perfect dance funk hits waiting to be unleashed on the dancefloor. And the groovy and drug induced “Cottonmouth” will ooze the moves out of you once you reach the bar.
Sparro, who’s openly gay (in case you we’re wondering), is actually a normal and peace loving citizen who just happens to funk on stage and wear cool weird clothes. By sound and sensibility this album is this year’s “Overpowered” but will definitely have more mainstream impact than Roisin.

Bänd on seoses tuuritamistega ka rokilikumaks muutunud; nende eelmine plaat “Bright Like Neon Love” kasutas rohkem kordusi ning polnud vast nii otsekohese kõlaga.

X Districti koordineerivad ei-tea-mitmenda-laine-Detroidi- technomees Jimmy Edgar ning keegi-Leedsi-neiu Laura Clarke. Saundi poolest nagu Jimmy Edgar ikka: fluiidne ja veidi soulilikum tumeelectro, kuid seekord vähem viltu.

Modeselektor on juba aastaid koos töötanud Saksa duo; seotud on nad Ellen Allieni leibeli BPitch Controliga. Muusika on tugevalt technohõnguline, kuid leiab piserdatult nii hip-hopi, dubstepi kui electrot. Selline stilistiline eklektilisus aga sobib neile.
Siit leiab käputäie täiesti ideaalset tantsumuusikat. “Godspeed”, tagasihoidlik avalugu, on nende debüütplaadile vast kõige sarnasem, muu on uudsem. Plaadi parimad träkid on urban mõjudega ja vokaalidega: “200007″ ja “The Dark Side of the Sun” ning “Hyper Hyper”. Singel “Black Block” (video allpool) ja lõpulugu “Déboutonner”, mis on plaadi electrohiiud, võiks hästi istuda SMD ja Justice’i fännidele. IDM armastajad võiks kuulata aga “Edgarit”.
Modeselektor on lugudel appi võtnud üsnagi mitmeid ja eripalgelisi lauljaid, vast tuntuim neist on Thom Yorke, kelle vokaalid ängitsevad dubsteppival lool “The White Flash”. Kuigi Yorke’i tämber mulle isiklikult ei istu, sobib see siia valatult.
Siiski, mõned lood ei anna plaadile otseselt juurde ja venitavad seda liialt pikaks (”BMI” ja mõned lühikesed mõneminutilised lood, mille võiks ka vabalt vahele jätta). Samas siit leitav lugude erisus pakub kõigile midagi, aga mitte stiilis, et leiadki paar-kolm kuulatavat lugu, pigem ikka istub terve plaat ja mõnest loost saab suur lemmik.
